Preparation Work

The donor  car is in the shed now and stripping has started.

Lights, Wings, Bonnet and front chassis members all sold

The engine is ready to drop out of the car with help from my son

Engine out

1.8 Zetec engine 113 bhp

Wiring loom, ECU, Steering column, front hubs and discs to be removed once the car is out of the shed.

Stuart of MEV recommended that I dry fit all of the suspension and engine before the chassis was painted just to make sure all the parts fitted correctly

and no metal needed to be bent or tweaked  as this would damage the paintwork.

this has been done over the last month.

instead of using the 2mm plain Aluminium as used by MEV I have decided to use 4mm tread plate. this can be seen in the picture above

I think this will give a little more character to the car with very little weight difference.

here is the engine being lowered in

after taking the engine in and out five or six time to get used to it. we found that the easiest way to complete

the task is leave the engine still in the winch and actually lift the chassis up and fit the bolts to the steadied engine.

Although the engine is a tight fit this  job is  reasonably easy with 2 people as the chassis is so light.

When the chassis is painted I will use 4 people to avoid any scratching on the paint work.

and finally after  a weeks wait the chassis is painted in a Metallic silver

Paintwork was done with thanks to
